The Challenge

At a remote location on Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula, a critical piece of tracked equipment became immobilized in a deep bog. One of the two tracks had come off entirely, leaving the machine partially submerged and unstable.

Multiple recovery attempts had already been made by other contractors, each escalating to larger and heavier machinery. These efforts only compounded the problem—further disturbing the terrain without achieving recovery. Access limitations, environmental sensitivity, and the mechanical failure created a scenario where conventional recovery methods were no longer viable.

Our client required a solution that was precise, low-impact, and executable in a truly remote environment.

The EcoAxis Approach

As remote access and ground stabilization specialists, EcoAxis approached the problem differently—focusing on engineering the ground first, not overpowering it.

Our Operations Manager developed a recovery plan that leveraged the stranded machine’s own capabilities, combined with EcoAxis’ modular access systems:

  • The equipment’s outriggers were deployed to stabilize and incrementally lift the machine.
  • EcoAxis timber outrigger pads were installed to distribute load and prevent further ground failure.
  • Using a controlled winch system, multiple connected EcoAxis access mats were carefully pulled beneath the raised equipment.
  • Once stabilized, the mechanic reinstalled the dislodged track on-site.
  • The equipment was then lowered onto the newly installed mat system and driven out of the bog under its own power.

No additional heavy machinery. No further environmental degradation. No guesswork.
